HANS KRAUWINCKEL JETTON 1562

 

A complete post-Medieval copper-alloy Lion of Saint Mark Nuremberg jetton of Hans Krauwinckel I, master 1562-1586

Obverse: S MARCVS EVANGELLIST GOTT, 'Lion of Saint Mark' standing left, nimbate with both wings shown, holding the book of gospels between fore-paws. Halo, rising into the margin, is surmounted by a star.

Reverse: HANS KRAVWINCKEL NVRENBER; Imperial orb surmounted by a cross pattée within an ornate tressure: inner circle also decorated.
